The Consular Department of the French Embassy in Yaounde and the Consulate General of France in Douala are responsible for the French community in Cameroon. They provide protection against foreign authorities within the limits of local laws and administer the cases according to French legislation and regulations.
Consuls are responsible for the French community of which they ensure the protection against foreign authorities within the limits of local legislation and administer the cases according to law and French regulations.
They can be assisted in their duties by honorary consuls and consular agents.
Furthermore, they assume different functions in order to assist the French community :
The registration of the French citizens living in their districts;
The responsibility of a Civil Registration Officer;
The charge of notarial duties, military issues (organization of the day of national security), the issuing of travel documents, national identity cards (provided that the applicant is registered);
They provide consular protection in case of arrest, imprisonment, serious accident or illness; they can intervene in cases of repatriation;
They are responsible for explaining the conditions under which the right to vote can be applied;
They preside over the local scholarship committee, the consular committee for the protection of social action, the consular committee for employment and vocational training.
The French consular network in Cameroon consists of 2 offices :
- The Consulate General of France in Douala is competent for applicants living in the following regions: Northwest, West, South-west, Littoral, the Ocean Division in the Southern region and Nyong and Kelle department in the Centre region.

- The Consular Section of the Embassy of France in Yaounde has jurisdiction over the entire territory of the Republic of Cameroon with the exception of the consular district of the Consulate General of France in Douala.
